What are Polyphenols?
A large group of organic compounds found in plants.
Polyphenols have been studied in a wide range of fields (1,2) including memory and cognitive function, immune activity, inflammatory conditions and more.
Cumulative epidemiological evidence suggests a link between consuming a diet rich in certain polyphenols - such as those found in red grapes, chocolate, green tea, red wine, soy, turmeric and blueberries - and preventing cognitive decline in humans (3, 4, 5,6)
Studies Conducted in animals show that high consumption of blueberries or red grapes is associated with improved learning disabilities and memory in older animals or in model animals for Alzheimer's disease. (7,8)
A diet rich in polyphenols, for example a Mediterranean diet, can provide about 100-150 mg per day of polyphenols.
